What should I get: a betta or a goldfish?

I would get a betta. They're prettier and don't make so much waste. And it's nice to save them from those little cups they're kept in at the store.

You do know that when you buy and "save" one from a store, the store is just gonna buy another one to replace th eone you bought, right?

What should I get: a betta or a goldfish?

I really love both.

I really need more info. Tank size comes into play here, do you love goldfish enough to provide a 29g aquarium for just one fish and only one fish?

It depends. Both are hardy and stuff but if you're into tropical fish, choose betta. And bettas breathe air O_O.

Goldfish are hardier than betta but then I don't think are much fun.

If you try to feed a betta, it viciously grabs the food and then "chews" it(? they bob their heads and I hear crunching noises:))

I don't know if you can really say that goldfish are more hardier than bettas because each is just as hardy as the other. The difference is in the living conditions, the filtration needs, the tank space, the maintenance schedules and the tank size. Goldfish need a lot of room and double the filtration needed than that of a basic tropical setup and their water changes must be kicked up a notch due to their high levels of wastes and hormone releases into the water.

no species of goldfish would fit in your 2.5 gal tank, does it even have filteration?
