What size of heater to use?

What size of heater should I use for a 55 gallon tank?

If I go by the 5 watt per gallon rule, I should get a 275 watt heater. And I can only find a 300 watt heater. Should I use this for my tank or go with two 150 watt smaller heaters?

Either option. 2 150 watts are safer in case one fails. If one get's stuck in the ON position, it will not the water so fast as a single 300 W would. Inverse, if it goes OFF, the other one will keep the tank warmer for a longer time.

I'm not to sure what to go with. I might go with two heaters just to be on the safe side. But, I don't want allot of wires hanging under my tank. I just don't know. What does everyone else think?

I would say two is best. Its what I would do if I had a bigger tank.

If you can swing the extra plug in I woudl agree that two is best.

Hide the wires. Get some fake vine type plants and tie them to the cords with fishing line.
