what size tank....?

I personally would keep the 10 gal and put the 4 white clouds and the hillstream in it. They like cooler temps and the loach likes fast moving water. What kind of gourami? I would go with the 30 gal and put the gourami in it. They appreciate warmer temps and slower moving water. That is of course unless it is one of the species that will get huge. Then I would try and find a new home for it.

Yes when I was planning to get another tank I was going to do a small "river" set up for the loach but after this past year and surgery I can't keep up with 2 tanks right now so I may end up contacting my LFS to see if they will take the loach if I can't do the river set up. Anyhow the Gourami is a dwarf blue. I believe he is max size, he looks like he is 2 or maybe 3 inches in length and plumped up a bit from his diet.... He has been with us for almost 2 years now and I am not sure how long the LFS had him to begin with, I would assume the Gourami was only a few months at most when we got him. If that...depending how long they take between transport to the lfs and such. I know my LFS quarantines all their fish for about 1 week to 2 weeks before they are able to be sold.
Anyhow that is where I am at...

I also much prefer the 20 long. You won't have room for angels anyway and I think the gourami will be fine in a shallow tank.
But if you have room for a 30 gallon long, so much the better. I bet you will be glad you went bigger.

I am actually looking at building a stand for in my kitchen so I might just do a 30 because if I can build the stand then why the heck not. But then that still leaves me with the loach.

In a 30 is it possible to have a bottom current along gravel enough for a loach but mid and upper current not as bad for the gourami? I really don't know if I have the heart to sell the loach. He and the Gourami are like buddies. They litterally hang with each other and the gourami "kisses" (so says my 5 year old) the loach and they just hang. The gourmai hates the white clouds though!

You may be able to use a powerhead to direct current along the bottom without stirring up the surface too much.
Loaches do prefer to be kept in groups by the way.

Yes I have read that about them and if I did get a bigger tank I would consider more but he was a rescue and the only one left so I never got more. I never "chose" him but I really like him alot. Brings alot of Character to the tank but if I can't get his proper environment to him I may give him up. All though I have had a hard time finding him a home that I trust.
I will have to do a little looking online and really plan the way this tank is going to go. Maybe I can build some sort of fake rock structure that will serve as a blocker for some of the current for the rest of the tank.
Hmmm will have to go look about that.

I love my 20g Extra high..ALthough 20G Longs and 20g high's are nice as well.

I would prefer a long over a tall because it will have a better oxygen exchange from what I've read.

TY everyone...I am still looking into the options but leaning to either the 20 long or a 30 gallon. Depending on what I can find.
Thanks again

you meantioned you didnt want to "deal" with anything bigger?

did you know that larger tanks are acctually EASIER to maintain?

I would go with a 25.. or maybe a 29 and your gonna be a LOT happier in the longrun.. much prettier and not any harder to tend to IME
