What size tank?

It is a nice thought, but it is only a dream. I definitely wouldn't be able to afford an indoor pond, or even an outdoor pond. I'm having trouble scraping up the money for the tank I have to get for them. I feel so bad. I'm stuck. There is no good place to put them or give them to and I don't have the resources to take proper care of them.

I'm thinking of all of those suckers in the fish stores that buy those poor little goldfish while the sales people are just wringing their hands thinking about the money they are and will be making.

They should simply invest in a large posterboard to post the basic requirements of each type of fish they sell and put it in a high traffic area so that people would be better informed to choose the right fish. Or, even write it on the tank itself.
 
a stock pond is actually cheaper than a large tank if you look at tractor supply, or similar farm supply houses you should find one cheaper than a 55 gallon tank it will be hundreds of gallons big.

What are these stock ponds like? Height, width, length, indoor, outdoor? Will my fish be safe from predators? I'm guessing that the ideal height would have to be 3' or 4'. What would the length and width be? What is the upkeep like?

Thanks! Great information and websites! I guess I'll look into the 300 gal. stock tank. And then try to figure out if it will fit inside or have to be put outside.
 
Just an update: The stock tank is a non-issue. It won't happen. It will either be a glass aquarium or get rid of them. I guess I'll have to get rid of them because I can't afford a glass tank that will fit 9 Comets in it.

I know how you feel. My first fish were 3 feeder fish I thought I could keep in a 30 gallon. I eventually had to find a pond for them. They were pretty big by then, and we were pals. Sorry You'll miss your pets. But its good to see you keeping their best interest in mind.

Yeah, I've had them for about 6 years. They are really great. I don't know if they can make it in a pond. They come to me and follow me when I walk by the tank. They even lined up in front of the tank to get their picture taken. (I'll have to scan that and post it.) What if they see some animal approach the water and swim to their death? They are so domesticated, I don't think they'll make it outdoors.
