Can anyone recommend a good snail to live with a betta? Preferably one that will not eat plants, but is OK to eat algae (when there is any).

Tank size is a 10G, and there is nothing in there besides the betta and some plants. I had thought about shrimp, but pretty sure the betta will eat them (he has previous history killing neons).

Thanks.

If the betta has a history of killing fish, a snail such as a brig (mystery snail) most likely isn't going to work. The betta will pick at it's eyestalks and antennae.

A nerite may be okay, they don't come as far out of their shells as a brig. I recommend zebra nerites, the tigers like to leave the water and hide above the water line.

try Vita usnea aka olive nerite.. I have some and they take care of everything in my cool water tanks

bettas aren't cool water ??

Any of the nerites would probably work, I would actually go for a c. corona or other small nerite species. They have a very low bioload and are very attractive.

i have common rams in with mine and he leavesthem alone except for the tiny betta pellet size ones he eats them,.. but i haven't seen him bother the stalks,.. but then he's been in with tons of them so he don't bother them anymore,..
you can get red ones,.. just shipped out many for feeders,.

my Betta picks on my snails so i had to remove the Betta. I put assassins in there today and he got a good hold of one of them. so in the separate until i figure out what do do with him. He is a mean bugger.
