I don't know if this goes here or with the inverts, but I have several small tanks of bettas and would like to put snails in there. There are so many kinds of snails and I don't know anything about them. The females tank is heavily planted and the males each have a chunk of anacharis in with him and I am hoping to get some Java Moss soon. Can anyone recommend some snails? I see ramshorn snails, mystery snails, apple snail, etc. What is the difference?

Mystery snails are apple snails. The most common kind found are pomacea bridgesii. They are sex specific and typically will lay their eggs above the water line. They get to about golfball sized and are pretty heavy waste producers. Some people have luck keeping them with bettas, but it really depends on the betta's temperament. Sometimes they will harass the snail and nip at its antennae whihc can keep it from feeding properly. Apple snails need a calcium rich diet to maintain shell health and are not proficient algae eaters.
Ramshorns are smaller (the common kinds) and come in a variety of colors. My two favorites are red and leopard. They are not sex specific so can readily reproduce with ample food source. They do not need to be target fed typically.

Both types are plant safe. There is a giant ramshorn (columbian, marisa) that is not plant safe but gets quite large.

My male betta can be housed with ramshorns (in a 16g) but harasses the life out of apple snails and any other invert. My son has a betta in a 5g that is tolerating an apple snail with him.

Snails ill do very nicely - I have Ramshorns in with mine.

i have briggs and ramshorn with my betta, no probs but he is chilled out like.
