Hey guys,

So I was at my local fish store today and they usually bring in some interesting stuff for being in a small town. However, for shrimps they usually only get in RCS, amano and some CPO crayfish. Today I saw some new things in there so I checked them out. Check them out and let me know what you think. At first, I thought they were super rare. Than I bought them, and thought they were dyed. Now I almost think they are some striped pink shrimp from the ocean. She bought them as large cherry shrimp.. Hahaha just take a look!

Let me know what you think. Usually I know at least the general information on different kinds of shrimps and fish but this one through me fore a loop. Help me out for being a idiot and purchasing with out researching! :headshake2:

Oh by the way they were keeping it in a RO water tank with cherries

well from the long nose, humpback and general shape I'm going to bet they're a caridinia closely related to the propinqua clan. But bump this up in the daytime tomorrow and let some of the real shrimp experts and sellers chime in. And that female in the second pic looks decidedly berried.....this may let you determine if these specimens are dyed or otherwise tampered with color wise or if this is a real purple/maroon strain genetically. Gorgeous creatures in any event, congrats on the buy. :)

They do look almost like died ghost shrimp but they are beautiful. I would take a couple of them.

I'm curious to find out what they are as well, they are really pretty! Bump so some shrimp experts hopefully see it! :D

They are a Palaemonetes species. Macrobrachium tend to have more substantial and longer claws. As for the color, it looks artificial in nature. They most likely were fed food heavily died, until the die built up in the shrimp's exoskeleton. If this is the case, after a molt or two the color will vanish.

Good luck with your shrimp :)
