Hi,

I added a little bit of live rock as I cycle my tank and noticed some things starting to pop up. Please help me id some of the new additions. One is a jelly hair like substance growing all over my rock. It looks like it could have some kind of eggs on it? And the other looks really weird, just a string like creature. I cant see any kind of legs or anything for that matter that lead me to belieave that it is alive other than it end up on different parts of the glass, it moves so slow i only notice it has moved when I leave the room for a while. Sometimes it spreads out so thin I can't see it, like a long piece of hair, than latter it will end up like the provided link.

Check out the link to see how this thing has moved.

I noticed two feather dusters, really small, it's exciting to look at the tank at different times of day and night :happywink To think, I only have a small amount of live rock and im going nuts, it gets better each day.

My brother recently ordered $200 worth of fiji rock and gave me this seperate bag that came with it. He gave me the bag as well as a bunch of small rocks and stuff from the bottom of the bag. I have heard that sometimes suppliers provide you with a bag of "bio-explosion". He has heard mixed reviews of this, such as hitchhikers and such but now that sees all the life in my tank after a short time I think he regrets it.

Not sure what the "jelly hair" substance is but my guess is a type of algae. Weird thing is I noticed exact same stuff at my LFS today in some of the African tanks, on rocks like yours. All the employees were to busy for me to ask them though.

The brown stuff on the rocks is algea, get some cleaner snails or maby a algea gobby (aka Lawn mower goby) or some fish that graze, eg. tangs, angelfish.
I don't know what that white stuff is but I would seriusly get it out of the aquarium.

Removed--totally out of line with the whole 'family forum' idea. OG

The hairy stuff looks like derbesia, a type of hair algae. It can take over a tank if you're not careful. Put the rocks into a bucket of SW, and use a toothbrush to remove as much as you can. Then keep the lights low until the tank is ready for a batch of snails and hermits.

The thing on the glass may be a terebellid worm, but that is a total guess.
