What to do with Riccia?

The plastic canvas was a very bad idea, it did not work well at all..

So I'm trying to Puff method:

That is exactly what I did with the riccia I got in another plant package. I got those scrubber thingies for the bathtub the one you lather with soap. I cut out the nettings and attached the riccia to rocks.

I think when my currently floating bunch gets big enough I'll be doing something similar to this method myself. It's barely bigger than my thumb right now, but growing nicely on the surface of my 5g shrimp tank under a 26W daylight CFL.

That looked awesome!

or you can buy a hairnet, cut it up, stick riccia under it than a stone and allow it to grow.

Great idea to, might have to buy some from a craft store. For my mosses, or maybe pelia :S.

I really liked the hairnet idea too. Seems to work really well. However, it degrades over time, and that can lead to real problems. I had to cut an SAE out of it once (he survived) and untangle a cory from it. My Sand Loach, Groucho, (Nemacheilus masyai) got gill netted in it and died overnight.

So be really careful if you use hairnet. I won't be doing so again.

My riccia stones are suspended inside of a Kritter Keeper and inside an cherry red shrimp tank only. I believe I also read cases on people making moss walls and fish got stuck inside or behind it.

Yeah, you have to be really careful if you do a moss or riccia wall. The way to do it is to use a blob of aquarium sealant to affix (and totally cover) a small rare earth magnet at each of the wall's corners and every 3 to 6 inches along the perimeter. Then you put another of the magnets on the ouside of the tank and it will hold it in place securely enough that nothing bigger than a planarian is getting behind it. (The magnets, neodymium I think, can be picked up relatively cheaply through Edmund Scientific. You can get a bag of 16 of them for $5.)
