What to do? (your best opinion)

What would you do? I have 3 fancy gold fish in a 5g ..since aug.

Should I move them in to the new tank now so they are out of the amonia. Then in a few hours add the bio spira. How long dose it take the amonia levals to rise? A few hours should be okay, right?

under .25 ppm ammonia for your 5 gallon which I believe is cycled, but heavily overstocked! If they've been in there since august they will be ok in the 5 gallon until you get the bio-spira. I would add the dechlorinator now, get the Bio-Spira, and add both the Bio-spira and all 3 fish to your 55 gallon. You could also take some of the gravel out of the 5 gallon and put in in an unwashed pantyhose and cram it in your 55's filter.

Should I put them in the other tank then? How high will the levals rise over night in the new tank(if i put fish in)?

I'd do what some suggested and put some of your media in the new tank and put your fish in there as well. Do the necessary water changes and don't feed them as much at first (how often/much do you feed them now?) and everything should be okay.

Perhaps have someothing on hand like AmQuel+ if you're worried.
