Hey all! I rehomed my Ball Python (Fluffy) today to a good home. I just haven't had enough time lately to properly handle and socialize. :(

The good part of it is that she went to a great couple that raise and breed Balls so I know she'll be well cared for and I can get updates whenever I want.

Now, I have a 20L terrarium open and am thinking about trying out a lesser demanding amphibian or reptile. I haven't kept frogs or lizards since I was 12. Any suggestions? I don't want anything that will outgrow the tank or is "high maintenance".

A leopard gecko is nice, and they don't have to have a lot of attention..

Aww man. I hate to see anyone give away their snakes. You could have socialized with him while on the computer. Snakes are easier to socialize with then most pets IMO. Just sit him on your shoulders and let him wrap around your arms while you played mafia lol.

My wife lets me do a lot of things but keeping a snake so far has not been something I've gotten her to accept.

Crested Geckos would be okay in a 20L. Leopards are a good choice, but I personally don't find them interesting. You firebelly toad people, would a pair of those work in a 20L?

I hated to do it, but at the same time knew I needed to for her sake. I ran into a viscious cycle of not having enough time to handle her until she was hungry and then not handling her because I didn't want to get bit. Not afraid of it (kept and caught big snakes as a youngster), but I liked the fact that she had never bitten anyone. She hit anything within 30 seconds and usually much faster. I'll have another someday, but want to expand on my experience.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

I wouldn't do crested geckos unless you are turning it on its side. They need a tall tank, rather than a long tank.

Here's some info on leos if you want. I have 9 here, and babies on the way. They aren't that interesting, but they come in all sorts of colors. My one female will just sit on my laptop while she's out, the other will go nuts. It's interesting seeing the different personalities in each.

You could do 5 FBTs in a 20L. They're relatively low maintanence amphibians, only needing a feeding of 5 crickets each at least every week and a 50% water change on the water side. Most people here have their FBTs on an all water aquarium with a few floating islands here and there. For a half land half water setup, get a peice of glass from Lowes or Home Depot and ask them to cut it to the width of the aquarium and about 4 inches tall. I have a Half land half water myself and the toads always croak every night.
