I had some adult pond snails in with my red-eye puffer, they've all been eaten/tortured to death by my red-eye, but not before laying eggs. The egg sacs are starting to hatch out now, and I have a 10g cycling for them when they get bigger, but I'm wondering what, if anything, I need to feed them in the meantime as the red-eye is the only other tank resident and he only gets raw shrimp and mussels.

Should I throw an algae disk in once a day? if so, how long would I leave it in there before removing it?

I would setup a 5g bucket with some java moss and anacharis with a cfl light and a bubbler, you'll have a fantastic colony of snails in mere moments. The puffer won't let them get very big before eating them.

They don't need anything in the way of food though as they scavenge mostly and if you had them before there is enough food, you'd feed the bucket every week though.

they will eat anything, flake, algae wafers, algae in the tank...most people don't target feed them too specifically.

Don't use a power filter on your snail tank; the little ones will be sucked into the intake. A sponge filter, UGF, or no filter at all is fine; you'll just need to perform more frequent water changes with the last option.

Yeah, I moved the plant I had covered in snail eggs into a 10g that is mostly cycled. The tank just has an airstone and some fake plants in it. no light, but it's on a dresser near my bedroom window so gets plenty during the day anyways. I'll keep an eye on the blobs of eggs and drop in some flakes every couple of days and hope for the best.

LOL, pond snails would go crazy in anything, so long as there's light and nothing eats them.

They'll get eaten alright :) just not in the tank i've moved the to. Tasty little snacks for my gsp and red-eye
