i have a spotted raphale catfish in my 46 galon and ime starting to get alittle concerned
it doesent seem to be eating i put some food in at night and he doesent seem to be taking it :lipssealedsmilie:
normally i wuldent be concerned untll tonight when he decided to awake frome his eternal slumber and i noticed he is beginning to get a little bit thin i know they dont eat alot but thats bad :headshake2:
annyway i dont think the sinking food he is getting is verry good so what are you guys feeding yours or maybe theres a method to feeding.
hes not starving but hes lost the belly i bought him with

From my own experience i would not be too worried, I have had mine for about 2 years, and i have not once seen him eat, i feed a variety of foods to the rest of the fish including flake, sinking and floating pellets, brine shrimp and bloodworms. As well as other things. My striped Raph comes out and eats VERY regular.. however the spotted is always hiding... i just assume him dead..lol... and then i am pleasently surprised when he makes an appearance every 6 months or so.... in the beginning i was also concerned, but that eventuallyturned to..'he's a hardy little guy that seems to know what he's doing' :)

my raphael barely seems to eat anything, but seems to grow magically anyway, so I think they eat... somehow. I've definately SEEN it eat shrimp pellets though.

What specific foods are you feeding? I've been doing mostly Hikari sinking carnivore pellets, which my raphael seems to love.

yea i me just feeding some randome cheap food that i rushed to grab on my way out of wallmart.

ime definitly getting new stuff ime just wondering what you guys think is the good stuff.

i doo see my spotted quite alot, at night he is one of the more actve fish
i feed my fish at night i watch them eat and i dont see him taking a single bite and than the food is gone.
its not like he cant eat the food he just doesnt!

so what are yours eating?

Drop in some shrimp pellets and turn the lights off. They will eat. As with most raphael cat owners, chances are you'll forget you have them until one day they surprise you.

mine tends to eat before it know it will die or starvation yet it is about 6 inches long now, maybe more. i got it and it was barely an inch long, so yeh what ever goes in the tank it will eat when its hungry or dark. dont worry about it

:) Raphael Cat's aren't real picky. Mostly scavengers for leftovers but they enjoy most sinking foods. Omnivores enjoy a variety of goodies including insect larvae, fry, frozen shrimp & some veggies. Nocturnal feeders often elude prying eyes but not to worry. My Striped Raphael was a little bigger than a thumbnail when we first met. Didn't see him for awhile & then ---

Just kidding. They are real slow growers & this one took 5yrs to become this visible. Got milk?? "T"

my new little guy is living off of Wardley shrimp pellets formula and is highly active all the time :D as soon as the food hits he is all over it bumping and shoving with my 2 corys and my kuhli loach. so i recommend the shrimp pellets.
