Hey guys,

I picked up an aquafuge yesterday for my 29g. The guy hooked me up with a bunch of chaeto, too.

I have a pretty deep sand bed in the tank, so I'm not worried about the small amount of sand I could put in the fuge. Even though it's a relatively big device, it's not even comparable to the 40 lbs of sand I put in the display tank.

So, I'm wondering if I should still do sand in the bottom of the fuge, or if I should break up some LR and fill the bottom with rubble.

I'd like to basically grow chaeto and pods...

Fuge is new to me, so thanks for any advice!

Ok, well maybe I'll try and hit it off with what my current plan is:

I'm just going to scoop out enough live sand from the display tank to make like a 1/2 to 1 inch sand bed

I'm going to break up some live rock and stick the rubble in the fuge for the pods to hang out in. This will probably take up another 2 inches

Which leaves a good 9x14x5 inch area for the chaeto to grow.

Sound about right?

Well the guy gave me some chaeto, so i'm thinking that will go in the fuge.

I'm actually also thinking of putting some haelimeda (I just butchered that name) in the display tank, since it looks easy to prune.

I'm tired of constantly scrubbing algae off everything in my other tank, so I'm going to see how this does instead. I'm hoping for that 'macro beats out micro for nutrients' phenomena. ;)

He he, just picked up a Aquafuge myself and was pondering what to add to it, this one's given me ideas. What I have right now is about an inch and a half of live sand and some large chunks of coral around the intake side of the fuge. The complimentary chunk of chaeto handed off from any fish monger and thats about it. I plopped one of my old 20H perfecto lights on top of it with a 50/50 bulb and it's been doing fairly well. I plan on doing something with a couple of those under cabinet halogen "pucks" as a permanent lighting solution since everything I've read has told me that the Kelvin on these is great for macro but useless for just about anything else. Heat's not an issue since the wife keeps the basement a cool 68 (in fact it would probably help keep the heater from kicking on in the tank constantly!).

After getting the thing in my hot little hands I must say it's a good looking little fuge! I might flop it onto the side rather than the back of the tank and set it up as a macro display! Thoughts?

Are you running the bubble trap or using the elbow that came with the thing?
