What to stock a 10g with...

Has she thought of trying brackish and getting something like a figure 8 puffer. I have one in his own 10 gallon and he is loads. Lots of personality and I think he is quite cute also. They are also very tolerant of water conditions as I found out accidentally.

I have to echo the post earlier about the blue paradise gourami. My sister actually saw it at Walmart of all places and bought him for less than 2 bucks! But since I'm the actual fish person in our family, he ended up in my tank. However, after keeping goldfish (and I have one that is about 13+ years old now) the gourami has the absolute best personality. He greets me at the glass, "dances" with his reflection (never mad, but swims up and down, it's funny), and explores all the little hiding places in my rock work. Now, I have mine in a 29g with several zebra danios (whom I love as well because they're active, but for you they wouldn't be much color and I like them in a bigger tank for swimming space) and he NEVER bothers them, doesn't even display at them. He is also very beautiful when it comes to color. The are typically the blue with some orangish red striping and tails. For example, mine is a very light tropical blue. It's knind of like a robin's egg blue with a neon look. His tail is very brilliant orange red, which is beautiful against the blue. His fins are also very long and flowing, which to me makes him as beautiful as a betta without all the anger, lol. Give it a try. A family of ghost shrimp might even be nice in a 10. They will reproduce in the right conditions, and though they're not fish or very colorful, they make up for it in their actions as they're quite interesting to watch. Otherwise, research the killiefish as noted earlier.........

All of that said, I have to agree with the earlier post in that it's almost easier to just go to a lfs and ask what works, letting the person point out some so you can actually see them. I understand that the lfs is an hour away, but is it that the lfs is actually that far away or are you being picky about which lfs you go to? I'm not being critical, just thinking that a little phonebook or internet searching may help. Remember, if she's this picky so far, she might change her mind at any time and if you can find cheap, healthy, and close it would save some time and gas..... :D GOOD LUCK, and I mean it...

Sammydee was merely suggesting to identify suitable fish yourself. This was due to the fact that you obviously have sufficient knowledge of the aforementioned species due to your quick diregard for them. I doubt that he was attempting to antagonize.

I have a 10 gallon as well which houses rummy-nose tetras and a Bolivian Ram (apparently hardier than the German Blue Ram). Since some people think tetras in general are lackluster...lol, you may be more inclined towards the rams.
Having said that, try a Red Devil or Oscar if you're looking for something large and certainly not boring. I hear they are great in 10 gallon tanks ;)
