What to stock a 10g with...

yea, I have talked it over with her, and I am just happy with anything she picks that will be happy in a 10, because I just convinced her that 6 goldfish wouldn't be happy in the 10, so shes very picky about what she gets. She has decided on a pair of rams. Is there anything that will do well with them?

Again, go with the cory catfish. They don't get more than an inch long, but they are very personable and cute...kinda like the clown loaches. Plus they are very active and great cleaners.

Corie cats will do well with a pair of Rams. But the problem with Rams is that they can be touchy and I never recommend them for Beginners. They tend to not last to long for someone starting out. A more hardier Cichlid that will do well for a Beginner is the Kribensis.

If you have a pair, they will actually breed for you and they are a nice fish to have. They do like to have plants though.

yes, I am getting kribs, but she thinks they are ugly and boring, I tell you, I think this girl should just give up on fish, but she really just wants the goldies, but thankfully I convinced her otherwise, don't worry, the rams will probably be fine, I am pretty experienced and will help her with them.

EDIT: Also, you arent really supposed to have them in anything smaller than a 20g, and she has a 10g, and thats all she wants.

Paradise Fish. Great personality, very active, personable, and can be trained. I have a large male blue paradise in with a school of six panda cories, a huge snail of some kind, and a baby bristlenose in a 10g that I keep at school. Absolutely awesome tank.

I had a bad experience with Kribs wrecking up one of my tanks. The kribs I got were ruthless and relentless- horrendously aggressive fish, even when there was just ONE in the tank.

Gouramis (honey, blue/opaline, dwarf, and paradise) are wonderful fish, so long as you just keep one of them. Tankmates: tetras, rasboras, dwarf frog, anything without long fins.

I actually had better luck with Rams than I did with the Kribs. I would say go ahead with them.... couple ottos/cories may do well also and the rams will get along with them fine.

That would sound good, but our LFS is over an hour away so I would rather not drive back and fourth more than needed. If you don't want to help me, then don't, leave it to other people, because I know if someone else made this thread, I would be posting away options.
well then, if you know all the options- where are they?

Since she is going to go with Rams. I would actually just use RO water for these fish, usually pick it up at the grocery store for about 30 cents a gallon or so. If she picks up a 5 gallon container, she should be fine for a while for top offs on this tank and water changes. I just had so many problems with local water and Rams. Like I said, they are picky fish. But cories do go well with them and with lots of live plants, it can be a pretty tank. She could also try Amano Shrimp, make a great scavanger. They eat the alage and extra food off the bottom of the tank.

Here is a cute blue ram.
