What to test for

Your Ca and alkalinity levels look impossibly high to me. Getting calcium above 500 is difficult (I don't think 580 is even possible), and alkalinity of 6.5 mEq/L should cause it to precipitate. Are you sure you're getting accurate readings? Which test kits are you using? Additives? What brand salt mix?

im not using any additives and my test kits are brand new. im using an aquarium pharemseuticals kit for calcium and a seatest fastest kit for alkalinity. im using instant ocean salt.

the initial readings that i posted before were takin the day before i posted them... approximately 5 days ago... i think

So what has happened between then and now? Calcium levels don't tend to increase over time.

between those times i did 2 15% water changes in an attempt to lower my nitrates. and i think thats about it. ive decided to get rid of my lunare wrasse. i'll probably wind up bringing him to the lfs sometime this week. hes been causing some minor problems in hte past and yesterday he eate my xenia. i figure that my reef will be safer without him anyway. also my yellow tang has been picking at my feather dusters tube for some strange reason. i first noticed him doing this yesterday and he ate probably about 1/2 inch of it. any idea why he would be doing this? grrr.... so many problems with this tank
