What type of wood and how thick for stand

What type of wood should a stand for a 100 gallon be? I was thinking 4x4" or will 2x4" work? Or does the width of the wood depend on the type?

4x4 for main support 2x4 for extra bracing. as for the other wood oak is nice an strong...but expensive...pine is good as well.

timber can mean anything...just believe that means standard construction wood...im sure hell correct me on that...but 4x4 and 2x4 are called timber they are usually fur or pine.

yes, i just used standard timer for the frame...4 x 4...you could park a VW car on it, but i know i can trust it !!!

I usually just double up 2x4s, pine or douglas fir. Ensure the the upper horizontals rest on the vertical supports is a big key to adequately supporting the tank's weight. Minimize any type of butt joint or face to face connections.
