What was I thinking?!?!?

thats suprising, ive only seen one running and you couldnt hear it at all...

Anyways, the Bluelines are supposed to be silent, so you should be happy.

Anyways, instead of using powerheads, you might want to consider using a wave 2k. A Wavemaster Pro is $100 right there, and then powerheads are $20 a pop...

Youd be better off buying a nice quiet www.wave2k.com center unit.

Yea thats one of the only problems i have seen with Southdown.. is that it can be stried up easly..

im using Crushed coral.. and its a 72 gallon tank with the 65 gallon sump..

and when i was holding some stuff for a friend.. some old equitment i for fun had hooked up his 2 little giants.. just becouse at the time i was running a duel 3 inch overflows.. so i want to push the limits.. lol

So i was running

Surge 6000 runs 870 GPH

3 x Little gaints 4MDQX-SC 1225 GPH Each

Total of 4500 GPH that was like 63 times my turn over, it turned my sump into a skimmer.. with in seconds i had all kinds of foam bulid up in the sump, and lots or bubbles in my tank.. my Naso tang really liked the current.. he was swimming agaist it.. But i think everyone eles in the tank thought it was some sort of Wirlpool :) it was cool.. looking but wayyy too much..

The dust storm has settled enough to see in the tank. I adjusted the output angle to reduce the amount of water available to stir up the SD. Now I can crank up the pump a bit more... However, I'm not draining fast enough into the sump to push the limits of the pump.

Can I supplement my built-in-overflows with a hang-on since I’m not getting enough water into the sump to really crank the return. I can’t think of a reason why I couldn’t but figured I just check…

OK, I added 6 more gallons to the system. That has allowed more water to "be in the sump" at any given time allowing much more flow. I now understand that super-high flow rates are possible. Of course a degree in fluid dynamics would have helped me! I'm up to about 1000 GPH (SWAG based on my ball valve position). I'll need to do some Dursos to quiet the waterfalls.

Any feedback on the addition of a HOB overflow?

take a little knife and widen the slots on the overflows.

Each overflow should be able to flow at least 1800 GPH
