What is the new sand of choice for reef? I know years ago SouthDown tropical Playsand was *it*. Now you can't find that anywhere so what is everyone using now? Where are you finding it? What type? Specific brand names? How do you find them? Local pet stores? Internet?

Hello there and Welcome..

I am from the UK, so my choice's of sand probably differ to the people in US...

But, unless your after a perticular color like black or pink...A good Arogonite sand which is low in silicates, that is relitivly fine, stay away from crushed coral..I used a mixture of quite fine crushed coral and fine sand for my current tank, but am slowly sifting out the coral bits..

For my new tank setup i am building, i shall just be using play sand from my local store ( and seed with sugar fine sand from existing tank ) ....It is a really good choice of sand to use by mariners here in the UK...

Hope this helps a little for you mate..Just my 2p worth

Niko
