What with tiger barbs in a 10g???

I agree, it's pushing the limit for the tank. But, fewer barbs and the agression isn't diffused enough, resulting in the existing barb killing the smaller ones immediately. I'm not sure that removing the existing barb and re-arranging the tank will work--barbs fight for heirarchy within the group, not for territory.

Which is why I don't think the barbs in the tank are a good idea. 5 barbs is barely enough anyway, IMO, and why risk it if the tank isn't large enough (again, IMO) and there probably isnt going to be a decent sized school to fight off aggression? I don't usually find fault in what you say OG...but this time I have to respectfully disagree:)

There are so many fish out there that would live wonderfully and peacefully in a 10g...

Cherry barbs would be a much better choice if it was possible to tarde in the tiger barbs. Colourful, aggressive and still small.

Yes I know but I don't want to take my tiger barb back! I have grown attached, and I know it will be a few years before he dies.

Well I do understand your reasoning (well, I would if you hadn't decided to take back all of your other fish), but I won't accept it for proper animal husbandry techniques. Best I could say is get a bigger tank..which I'm sure you can't. *Shrug* I'll butt out now.

Just food! :D :D :D

If you can't part with your tiger, I'd suggestion something of similar size.
Give the other fish a fighting chance. >sigh<

same tiger issue

I also have a 10g with lots of planting and drift wood, it's more decorative than anything. I got 3 baby tiger barbs from the store. The smallest was recently killed :-( But now I just have 2 tiger barbs, they seem to have fun with eachother. I don't know what to add though... maybe 2 more barbs and a khulli? What do you think? I am just worried the barbs i add will be bigger and kill my other little two in there.

So I have made a decision. I am going to give up the neons, oto's and betta and just have tiger barbs in my 10g. How many Tiger barbs could I have? I was hoping I could have a few dwarf cories or ottos and maybe something else in there with them.
I already have 1 tiger barb in there but he has been by himself for a while so I thought I would add one tiger barb at a time(also because I don't want too big of an ammonia spike).

Thanks alot!

dont put tiger barbs in a 10G!!!!

i did it and it didnt work out. all they did was fight fight fight.

just for some perspective...

I "had" 5 tiger barbs in a TWENTY gal tank. Now I'm down to 4. This is why most people, including myself, would not suggest you put 5 tiger barbs in a 10 gal tank.

However, I will state that my females are much more peaceful than my males. The fish that got killed was the smallest male, presumably by the largest or two larger males.

i had 12 small tiger barbs in a 30g..

when they started growing, 1 female outgrew all the others and became aggressive.. she's almost 3" now

im down to 4 now (in a span of 6 mos.) but no sign of fighting since i added 2 clown loaches that started schooling with them..

guess im not that lucky wid tiger barbs

and i think i have to move the loaches when they start growing right? they r about 2-3" now

my i think i'm off the topic
