i am just curious what would happen if i put 2 beta in the same tank i just bought a beautiful blue male beta ( i know its a male cause they told me lol) anyways he looks lonely can i get him another beta for a friend? or do they always look lonely like him

They will kill each other.

u can put other fish with him platys are good.

platys need a filtration device tho dont they and they pet store told me not to put a filter in with my beta due to his very long fins so i have in in a huge vase with marbles on the bottom probally about 2 gallons of water (im guessing) the pet store told me to do water changes every 2-3 days and he will be fine they also told me the air tubes will cause him stress so not to put one of those in with him either.

Yeah the fish do seem like angels but they aren't at all. Put a mirror in front of him and he will see himself and he will look creepy looking. Don't do it for too long though, it makes it seem like its being stressed out.

All fish tanks should have a filter, unless you do extra water changes aside from the recomended 20 or so % that should be done every week. Also bettas seem to thrive more in a tank 5-10 gallons at least. And I dont think the filter is going to hurt him or his fins, most fish are strong enough to outswim the intake tube and are smart enough to stay far enough away from it.

i think you can get platies and a filter as well

most of the tanks with bettas i have seen have a filter and the filter aint doing any harm to the betta..

i agree with webbie, i think the betta is strong enough to swim away from the filter..
try getting the ones where the motor is not submersible..
i think they have a weaker "pull" compared to the submersible ones..
the submersible motors are usually powerheads, a bit strong :duh:

in my experience though, the only fishes that ive seen sucked by the filter are fish fry, and fish that are weak and dying anyway.. not sure though..

If its only about a 2 gallon size, the betta should be the only fish kept in it. If you keep up with wather changes and check the water to make sure you are doing them often enough, it should be fine. However, IME most do prefer a larger tank, heater (or stable temps. very important), and filter. You could add a silk plant to the container (plastic can tear their fins). Mine loves to "rest" on his plants :)

Betas are also called siamese fighting fish. They are better left by themselves or with peaceful fish that do not resemble themselves ex guppies. On the note about filtration. I have a filter running in a community tank with my betta, he is dong fine.
