What would raise PH levels?

Here it is

My tap water is 7.0 ph
My tank water with API
high level test is between 7.4 and 7.8

what can cause this?

what kind of substrate are you using in the tank?

well i got it with the tank it looks like pea gravel with what looks like the stuff to get rid of ammnonia the white little rocks cant remember the name of it

The little white rocks could be crushed coral, which would raise your pH. Take some out of the tank and pour a little vinegar on them - if it fizzles then you know you have some sort of calcium, which would raise the pH.

maybe you have some limestone in there

ok no to the crushed coral i used rice vinager and apple cider vinager no fizzies.
Ok now what does limestone look like?
there are 2 cream colored dull rocks my wife and kids got from the river and cleaned but I will have to look up lime stone....:idea:

Ok as far as I can tell with the vinager I have no coral or lime stone I am gonnagoto the store tommorrow and get regular vinager and test again. I just cant figure it out can driftwood raise PH? I dont have any plants real or fake in tank just four rocks and 2 pc of drift wood?

did you let you water sit out before testing it?

It just sat long enough to get the test solution 10 sec or so I use a 5mil syringe that I clean with tank water run it threw 10 times or so
