I want to add just a couple more fish to my tank. I have 3 panda corys, 1 cory that is slightly larger(don't know his species), 1 swordtail and 1 molly. I don't want to add anymore of the types I already have. I was thinking maybe a couple platies or maybe a couple otos. If anyone has any good ideas please let me know.

How big is your tank? I know that you said you don't want to add any more of what you already have, but I would suggest that you add four or so more mollies (provided you have enough room). They are schooling fish and do better in a group. I don't know too much about swordtails, but I think they are the same way. That being said, platies or other community fish (tetras, danios, etc.) would be a nice addition to your tank. Remember that community fish do best in schools and should be added in groups. My personal favorite are zebra danios. They are pretty fish and are very active; they would add lots of entertainment.

the tank is mid cycle, i know....I'm not looking to add these fish right away....more like once i finish cycleing. I need a fish that prefers hard, basic water. I don't really want to more mollies or swordtails because i don't want fry and i don't want fish fighting for ranks....plus i have not been doing well with mollies....i do know platies can breed with swordtails...that is one reason i am still unsure...so any help will be appreciated...

uh, I think mollies can breed with swordtails too (if I remember right), but I have never heard that either are schooling fish. and unlike karinza said, not all community fish are schooling fish. Some are, some are not. I would suggest that you research a few places online before you buy any fish, all fish are different. And oh, yeah! with a 10g you are seriously hindering the selection of fish you can buy and are probably aproaching your stock limit.

i didn't think they were schooling fish either.....i mean i'm sure some might like company but.....also...i don't think mollies and swordtails breed....

The best idea is to go to the store where you buy your fish, write down some names of fish you like, come home and do some research to see if they would get to big for your tank, or other problems you might come up with, and post on here to see what people think! I think you probably only have room for 2 or 3 fish though, so a schooling fish is probably not a good idea. And my molly and platy bred, so if you don't want fry you might want to avoid them too!
