OK, what would you do? I've got the 125 gallon in the wall Tang tank. I started with 6 comps, 6 brevis & 22 cyps. Cyps have almost all died except for five of them. I do like the comps but have been board with the tank feeling it is kinda bland with not much color. I am not gonna do more cyps (enough is enough - we don't work well together).

I have been liking the color and activity level of the Malawi cichlids lately. Would you switch out the in the wall show tank to a moe colorful and active tank and put the comps & brevis in their own smaller tanks?

What size tanbk would you put the 6 comps in?

What malawi cichlids would you put in a 125?

OR, would you leave the Tangs in the show tank and add a couple new key species to spice up the tank? What would those speceis be?

Thanks,
Russ

A school of Lamprichthys tanganicus, hands down. A bit pricey but a real showstopper!

I think if you want to keep the comps and the brevis, you can certainly find color from other Tanganyikan Cichlids without having to change to Malawi.

Viable options include some kind of tropheus colony, Orange Leleupi, Daffodill Brichardis, or the peaceful but giant Frontosas.

However, due to diet differences between the tropheus and Frontosa, that would be an either/or situation, but not both.

And also, comps is rather vague, as the two are highly different. Do you have D. Compressiceps, or A. Compressiceps? I'm assuming A. since it's Tanganyikan, but I just want to make sure.

They are altolamps (Razzo has posted pics)

I would do a large breeding group of xenotilapia with cyps personally, but I understand that more cyps are kinda out of the question now. Maybe paracyps instead?

No tropheus with the other tangs though, too risky. Fronts, maybe but I think they would feel more comfortable in a species only tank.

Orange Leleupi, Daffodill Brichardis could be some good possibilities.

As for the frontosa, I have a colony of Kapampa in my 265. I have used the 125 for a growout for my kap fry when I have a couple left behind. They do look nice in there but I can't keep them around long. One day I am gonna have to determine to keep some for myself.

Thanks,
Russ

I have wanted some xenotilapia for a while - they are a sand sifter right?
