So, I got some new plants & added some dwarf hairgrass, marsilea sp., & hemianthus micranthemoides to the 2.5g @ work. I brought a new timer for my light - but realized I purchased the wrong one. :duh: This is a "random vacation" timer that turns the lights on & off in a random pattern. One hour here, 4 hours there, once this day, 3X this day.

I'm going to be out of the office for 4 days... Do you think I should 1) go with the timer & hope the plants stay alive until Tuesday? Or 2) leave the light on the whole time, but raise it higher & maybe use a thin napkin to filter the intensity?

Note: I did #2 (the option above, not the "doo" - too much time in that other thread!) last weekend which started up some GSA & worsened the existing glass yuck... I'm scared to imagine a double dose, but not sure the new plants can handle the vastly interrupted light cycle (they're recovering from being shipped for 5 days without light as it is).

Thoughts?

Also got floating (confined) riccia...

No added ferts in this tank...

Nope. I know what you mean, I have the standard timers that are adjustable on my tanks at home... These are set. The blue tabs are where the light will be on - the gaps are off times. :wall:

^agreed. I think you can push down on those tabs in the ring and adjust them to the cycle you want.
If you had the model number and such you could probably get the instrutions.
Looks old but good

It's brand new, just out of the hell-plastic.

Tabs are not adjustable.

My light is a 13w 6700k daylight bulb...

i would not leave the lights on the whole time.

i could be wrong, but the way i see it... lights all day could mean... same plants dead and algae spread everywhere.

no lights at all is more likely to produce only one of those results than both.

if the area gets any daylight you MAY be able to keep indirect light on it. not sure i'd trust even that, though.

all in all, it really sounds like you just need a different timer. [hello, captain obvious here...] is there a reason you can't get one?
