What would you do?

Well, on a slightly different note....

I've noticed that fish have been turning up dead since I put the Arowana in. They aren't being eaten, they show no sign of damage... they're just dead. Also, its just the Celebes rainbows. The dwarf rainbow, the cichlids, and the catfish are all fine.

You think this is a water quality issue (I haven't tested it yet) or are arowanas known for killing tankmates just for the hell of it? I haven't seen it go after anything, and the rainbows were/are too big for it to eat, so I'm kind of hesitant to blame it, but...
 
What are your tank specs geeky, and what kind of arowana is it? They will eat all of the fish you mentioned if there is a large enough size difference, but it seems that your arowana is still small, so the cichlids and catfish will be okay. The rainbows will most likely be killed off, even if you have a large enough tank. If the arowana is still a juvenile and cannot eat the fish but wants to, then yes it will kill them without leaving signs of damage. Check for scale tears near the rear fins, there could be some evidence there, but not necessarily. It is also tough w/ celebes bc their fins look torn to begin with.
Bottom line, it will kill the weaker fish even if it can't eat them yet. You should not have a problem with the cichlids if they are approximately the same size.
 
It's a 10g (I know, I know. But, as I've said before... if I want to keep something that gets BIG I just get juvenile(s) of that species, and then sell them when they outgrow the tank).

Right NOW it has:
3 ~2" Blue-Eye Cichlids
1 ~3-4" Arowana
1 1.5-2" Dwarf rainbow
MAYBE 1 ~2" Celebes rainbow (presently unaccounted for)
2 2" Julii cories
1 3" Clown plec (which, in point of fact, I haven't seen for at least 3 months, but the algae is under control, and it managed to say out of sight for a good 2 months after I bought it, so I assume it's fine)

So, I dunno. If the Arowana is killing stuff, it'll have to go back to the LFS. :rolleyes: On the up side, it gives me a reason to switch over to barbs or neons or something (not with the cichlids, mind you)
 
Nothing personal geeky, but don't do that. That's how I got my arowana because someone was keeping him in a bad enviromnment. :OT:

On the other hand, I'm trying to work out the money for a 75 for the oscars until this fall. See if I can make it work, wish me luck. If I do it, it will be Friday.
 
Travelin, nice pic. My money's on the mating behavior. The worst might blow over in a few days, as they get "out of the mood", but probably will recur. Looks like you might need to consider separate quarters. Makes me think about my current arrangement as well. Have a 2nd, small O in a 55 till he grows enough to put in the big tank. Oh, well... tanks are getting cheaper. Good luck.
 
Well, I think your girlfriend should try not to be so mad at your Arowana. After all, big fish eat little fish. That's how it works. Can't punish a being for following instinct.

As for the aggression, maybe add some things like plants, caves etc. so some fish can hide, and don't see each other all the time? I'm sure the pl*co would like a cave...

It hasn't gotten any better. The war is on. I give up, whoever lives, lives. I think i can get a 60 -75 this week. I can keep the osacrs in there until the big tank is done. Then my arowana and pleco will go in the big tank and oscars back into this tank.
