...with an empty 55 gallon? Since I got a new tank I will have an empty 55 gallon. I thought about either a large school or two with a center piece fish OR an African cichlid set up (not sure what kinds). I am pretty open and would like to hear suggestions.

It's really all in what would be a challenge to you, where you're at as far as aquaria skill and what draws your attention.

also what do you have already..

I already have one tank with guppies and danios and another one with SA and CA cichlids. I like the Kenyi Cichlid but do not know much about them. Not sure which other ones would be good to go with them. Not sure what I want just looking into options.

IMO--a 55gal is a little on the small size for Africans. You can only keep a few cichlids in a tank that small (unless 4-6 fishes is all you want). When you say school do you mean tetras or barbs, or even rainbows??

I would go with a school of neons or a barb and some corys well have fun and good luck ;)

I would like to suggest a school of Bosemani rainbows or a school of (hard to find) Parkinsoni Rainbows, They will get about 3" so you could comfortably keep about 12 or so in a 55 Gal. They are so Beautiful and Graceful when schooling.

have you tried breeding fish other than guppies. that is the best part! I had a LOT of fun with electric catfish, but they are illegal in some states

It sounds a little boring, but I would really like to have a tank about that size for a couple of fancy goldfish :thud: !!! They can live for so long, and get so large I think they could make a really neat tank! Plus no heater... the less stuff to worry about the better :)
