What would you like to see in a lfs?

Some dwarf cichlids would be nice-both new world like rams and apistos and some African shellies and maybe kribs

ANOTHER thing I skipped! OF COURSE! I want to get some NICE rams, cockatoo cichs, maybe some agasizis, kribs, and shellies. Bolivians are nice too.

:iagree:

and some nice plants that aren't super common

Still working on him with the plant thing. He knows NOTHING about plants. His FW section has some serious algae right now. I don;t think he's ever put in ferts! I'm no plant pro, but I plan on bringing in some nice stuff, like crypts, rotala, moss, anubias, etc.

Laser corydoras would be great. They are very eyecatching!
And I totally agree with the apistos, rams, etc...
Also would peacock gudgeons be an option? Because around here there aren't any. At all. Oh and a couple of seahorses and/or an octopus would be awesome. My LFS has some and it's packed in there. Apparently people love them (the seahorses + octopus) seeing as there aren't many around here. I guess it just depends on where you are/the rarity of the specimens themselves in your area.
If you are going with "monster fish" will you consider knife fish?
And I love the LFS idea, by the way. Sounds awesome! Update us when you can :)

Good planted tank supplies. Not an old bag of Fluorite and some root tabs in the corner but real supplies.

He has a decent selection of fertilizers right now, as he just bought out another store that was closing. He does have some nice bulbs. Can't get him to do too much there, as he is very salt focused. But I hope to get him to carry a few more plants!

Ugh.......peacock gudgeons.......can't even deal with those words right now.

ANYWAY..... he actually does have some seahorses, and they are so cute! He might be able to get octopi, although I've never seen one there.
A large knife fish would be cool! I just want to avoid what I would consider crazy huge monster fish, like a redtail catfish or pacu. That's bigger than what most people can handle.

I realize that you don't want to have the common community fish like neons and guppies as it would compete with petco and wallmart, but we have both big box stores here and I still would rather get them from a reputable LFS.

The petco and walmart fish are almost always finclamped with 1 or 2 dead in the tank. It is about quality tank upkeep and healthy fish, not price.
