Ok, so I'm the one that wrote about the leech type thing I found in my tank yesterday, right? Well, today, I had a friend over and we were gazing at my tank, and what do I see, but........

FISH!!!!!!!!!! FISH I DID NOT PUT IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!! Omgosh I almost had a heart attack! My tank has been set up for a little over a month, and the first thing I put in there was a whole bunch of plants I ordered online. Since then, I have a tankful of pond snails (hitched a ride on the plants), a leech type thing, and NOW, FISH!!!!!!!!! There are TWO, schooling type fish in my tank!!!

The only thing I can figure is that there were fish EGGS on my plants as well, and they have since hatched! Is this possible?? They have survived one hell of a journey if it is. I had the plants in the tank for TWO WEEKS without even a heater. I am still in shock, in case you didn't notice. LOL

So NOW, I don't even know what kind of fish these are, or what kind of conditions they require - obviously not too much care though. LOL Also, I didn't plan on tropical fish in general - I keep bettas and puffers - both types that don't necessarily get along with others well. :: sigh ::

Once again will you all help me identify this living creature? They look like zebra danios to a degree, but I'm leaning more toward minnows?? Their fins are clear, with a tinge of yellow, and they obviously have a stripe down their body horozontally. I caught them (fast lil suckers), and put them in a container to feed them (they LOVED the microworms!). Thank you!

Hm.. not quite sure. A little too young to tell for now. But they sure are cute :)

i dont know what fish they are exactly, but i do know that you shouldnt get plants from wherever you got them again

it looks like some sort of tetra or a killi

Yea... What a bummer... Free fish! :spam:

That is pretty cool... Maybe your friend player a trick on you.

I had a very similar thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I have a ten gallon cherry shrimp tank setup. Only shrimp and snails. I was watching the shrimp and saw something moving in the back of the tank. I saw three baby fish swimming around! I figure there were eggs on a plant and they hitched a ride from one of my other tanks. I was using it as a holding tank for plant clippings. I think they are either rainbows or serpea tetras. Too early to tell though.

BTW, yours look like some kind of cichlid fry IMHO.

Sounds exciting. It would be interesting to have a baby fry pop out of no-where and see which type of fish it ends up becoming :) You could always sell it later. Especially if it turns out to a rare species :) Knowing me, I would just end up becoming extremely attached to it.

It looks like either a dace or a killifish. If it has points on the tail it's probably a dace. If the tail is rounded on the end it's most definately a killi. Can you get a better pic of the tail?

Looks a lot like a baby blackspotted or blackstripe topminnow (killifish family):

I had one of those in my tank, they're neat fish.
