what's a good algae scraper to get?

Depends on the algae you have. Some algae are stubborn to get off and require a razor blade. I'd only get the razor one only if i needed it. For my own safety :P
But it's entirely up to you.

My bro has one of those magnet algae cleaners, but when you move it around, it sort of, bunny hops along - in a jerking motion. And it disturbs his marine sand, so you gotto use it real slow.

Is that normal for most algae magnet cleaners?

I use a razor blade on a handle.

The ones you buy in the paint department.

No worries about cutting yourself.

I like the magna-float.

Once you get your tank under-control, just use it once in a while. It will work good. The glass can't be real real bad. This works good for up-keep, but not for a neglicted tank.

Do not get an off-brand with the string, it will just make you mad.

the magna float algea spcraper works well, and you can use it while you are looking into the tank so you can "see" any algea growing on the glass, opposed to having to stand over the tank to scrape with an algea scraper pad.
the algea scraper pads do have their advantages though, for the magnets in the magna float can only apply so much pressure, and if there is some though algea you can go in there and get it.
