Just what the subject says, I'm looking for a good filter.
I have a 55 gallon right now, but would like to use it for a 90 gallon I may be getting soon. And I'm on a budge, let me know thanks.

My XP3 is very quiet. The flow is good. And it's a piece of cake to setup and maintain.

XP3 or Fluval 405 for the cheaper canisters, or Eheim if you can afford it. If you're not on the canister budget at all, Emperor 400 (or 2 Emperor 280's), or Aquaclear 110 (or 2 Aquaclear 70). Resist the urge to go by the manufacturer's tank size rating on the box. Most filters are way overrated, especially HOB filters.

Vote for Rena XP3. Cheap, excellent filtration, easy to maintain, and have not had anything break in 3 years for my Rena xp2's (well, minus the worn out media that is).

Isnt there an Xp4 now?

I dislike Fluvals because I had a 404 die on me within 1.5 years - booooo Hagen Fluval. (But the Hagen Aquaclear HOB are top notch).

yes, but it is significantly more expensive than the XP3 and the fooprint of the canister is the same - they just stacked another basket on top.

I have heard that this means that it will not be able to handle any more load than the XP3 before clogging, thus it seems like a waste of extra money.

the XP3 is a pretty big and powerful filter, at least IMO.
