What's in your canister filter?

Until I save up the money for a sump, i am sadly restricted to running my tank on a canister filter. Am curious as to what should be in there as I have read my threads where the recommendation has been to get rid of bio balls etc due to elevating nitrate levels

Subsequently I will be emptying mine this weekend. What is the purpose of it then, other than flow and extra water volume???

Thoughts/comments/general criticisms welcome

i dont have CF, i have a sump
if i did had CF, i would add lr
you cant go wrong with more lr

Will consider it, cheers. But of course new live rock would mean taking money from the sump pool. Can't win can I?

no filters...no sump...just live rock.....but, thats just me....

I bought a canister and also removed everything except for a pad that catches debris. It basically catches debris and creates more circulation. I don't know if I would have bought it if I realized (newbie that I am) that the live rock could be enough.

Hindsight, it sucks doesn't it. I would have a completely different setup knowing what I know now

can u use it for circulation and not use anything..save up for your sump the live rock in the tank should be enough as long as u don't have a large bio load i have a 40 with no sump..just a ball of chaeto in the tank and will be setting up a 75 and am seriously considering no sump

If you have live rock in the tank, I'd run the cannister empty, for added water volume and increased water circulation
