hi, the damsel flicks it's tail sideways and sand flies everywhere, it's now doin it in another place too... in the tank there are four hermit crabs, 2x neon gobies, 1x cleaner shrimp, 3x snails and i have seen a couple of worms. tank has been set up for about 4 weeks damsel has been in about 2 weeks neons 3 days eveyone seems to be okay with each other..did water change today ..parameters are good.. (maybe he's showing off) thx.
How big is the tank? How much rock and are there places for it to hide in it? He might just be trying to gain some security I've seen them burying a bit in the sand to hide when there isn't enough rock for cover.
I had a Non perc clown that did the same exact thing. I had very little LR and he just started to make a home deep down in the sand. It does stink because it clouds your tank a little just like my Orange spotted goby he is moving sand and clouding the tank like crazy!
I had a domino damsel do this constantly. What he's most likely doing is stirring up the sand to see if any bristle worms or any other goodies are sitting beneath the surface for him to snack on. It's nothing to worry about.
Unless you notice visible signs of disease on the fish.
