What's So Hard?

WOW! OTHER NEWBIES? IMPOSSIBLE!

Can Some People Give Me Pics Of Plants & What Theyre Called So I Can Know What I Like Best?

I think that one of the most rewarding experiences in this newb's planting carrier was finally defeating the bba that kept coming back on the java fern in my 10g. When I found that balance (after the aforementioned newbie freak out, of course ;) ), that's when it dawned on me that I can do this.

It's not that complicated if you cool down a bit and think about what's really happening in the tank. But then, that was only the small tank effort, we'll see how the step up goes. :D

for pics & names, I think that www.plantgeek.net is an indespensible resource.

also useful for planting, trimming and pics:

Once you get the hang of growing plants in most situations (low light, moderate, high) other kind of challenges will present themselves... namely aquascaping. I can grow just about any plant given the correct equipement... but ask me to aquascape my tank? Forget that. Everytime someone looks at my tank, I just claim that I like the "jungle" look... yea, right

Plantgeek.com is ok, Once I Get A Good Look At The Plants, I'll Try To Look For A Matching Pic, Or I Could Use My Dad's Digital Camera And Take A Pic Or Two.

Tropica is kind of the definitive source, IMO. I mean, they have their own trademarked species;) Plus, have you seen their greenhouses? It's sick!!!

I know what you mean! Why do you think you don't see my tank anywhere? I blame it on the size though - most plants look out of place in a 10 gal, and stems especially don't get a chance to branch or get established before it's time to uproot and prune! Thats why I totally admire anyone who can make a small tank look respectable. IMHO aquascaping is much easier in a larger tank.

Gotta disagree with you on that one Starry. My two most beautiful tanks are my 10gal. and especially my 5.
They are easier to keep up with and high light(like 5 - 6 watts/gal.) is no big deal in a little tank.
I really like the way they've come along in not too long a time.

To make things more uniform and in scale I use only small leafed stuff in both of them.
Just a real pleasure.

BTW - Next year......Leafs and Flyers in the finals(if there is a next year):( :)

I Looked Around Plantgeek.net, And Found An Easy Backdrop Plant And 2 Foreground Plants That I Liked, But Now I Want To Know If They Can Live Together. Here They Are: African fern, Dwarf Sag(Narrow Leaf Sag), And A Spatterdock. Will They Live Together?
