I completely disagree. I see no difference between choosing a fish that serves a cleaning purpose in your tank and choosing one that serves a visual purpose in your tank. That's just my opinion...
I also disagree. As long as the fish is well fed and cared for what is the big deal? You can also argue that people "use" schools of neons for extra color in a planted tank. Nobody ever said that they dont like plecos, they just serve the extra bonus of cleaning your tank.
To the OP, clown plecos arent known to be good algae eaters, but ok. (and your avatar is freaking me out a little sorry)
I had a very tidy L01/L22 who did a fantastic job even when well fed on fresh veg. Once he got over 8-9 inches I don't think I ever scraped except behind equipment. One would be a perfect choice for a 220 imo.
