So my birthday is coming up and I would like my girlfriend to get me a canister filter. What kind should I ask for? This is for my 55 that has 4 convicts, 2 firemouths and a ton of fry. Right now I have 2 HOB filters, one that fits a 25 gallon and one that fits a 30 gallon. I would like one that would move more water than what I'm moving now. In the future I would like to add 1 Green terror and some type of armored cat.

the rena XP3 would be a good choice, and so would be one of the eheim classic filteres.
If you're looking for a filter that will move a lot of water, check out the magnum 350.
****just remember NOT to take out your hang-on-back when you install the canister. Leave both filters on for good measure.

yes i would also say magnum 350. have that on my 60 gal works great,well now that i have all the gaskets in it lol
Another vote for the XP3. It's cheap, easy to clean, and doesn't use any consumables. Whichever one you use, put a foam filter on the intake so you don't filter your fry out of the tank!
