whats the best filter

I love the AquaClears. Have only had an issue with one that I had neglected.
If you can, do go with two filters on the tank, not only for water turn over but also incase one of the filters should fail and go un-noticed for a bit of time. You'll still have a fully seeded/cycled filter there incase of die off of the other.

For those of us with multi-tank symdrome, having a second filter on each tank with fully seeded filter media is always a great way to start up a new tank.

should i just go with one aquaclear 500?? it is recommened for 100g tanks and can filter up to 150g....

My Aquaclears won't reprime if the water level drops more than 3 or 4 inches... in other words, every time I do a partial water change. Maybe acceptable for some, but not for me...

I just scoop some water into the filter and plug it in. it's running again in 15 seconds. Do your emps reprime themselves if they're dry? I might have to look into one if they do. sounds like a good deal to me!

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, they're nice but just too darn spendy.

I almost never have to reprime my Emperors; the tanks on which I have ACs have either a Penguin or an Emp on them. Neither filter is completely dry from a water change and the Emps will usally restart (take a while, but they do). Not so with the ACs.

I don't think any HOB will prime if it's truly dry, but these filters don't completely empty.
