Ok i would like to know whats the best gold fish food on the market and your input can be based on scientific fact or just trial .reason i would like to know what i can feed my goldies to ensure long life good growth and great colour?other than a live diet of course.......

I use Ken's goldfish pellets. They work like a charm. Others swear by the international Hikari Oranda Gold (or lionhead mix-- depending on what you have.) I have tried both and prefer Ken's.

I also supplement with blanched veggies and fruits, which they really seem to like.

The cheapest 2 for me. Just to give them a little variety.

Personally, I don't have any goldfish at the moment, but have been keeping them on and off for about as long as I've had fish. IME, I've had great luck with the hikari line, saki hikari (purple) and hikari lionhead specifically. I found that my fish had great rate of growth with both foods, but they may not be the best choice for fish with floating issues. Mazuri also makes excellent gel food mixes that are known to be nutritionally complete, unlike any mixes one might whip up in their own kitchen. They would be vastly better choices for fish with any food related buoyancy issues, and are also exceptionally easy to medicate in the event that the need arises.

my goldfish have saki hikari sinking pellets, then they get a regular treat of cooked shelled peas, and various other treats once or twice a week. i feed mine nothing that floats.

Best is all a matter of opinion. For me its the cheapest because that saves money, which i have little of, for others its the healthiest, others the most variety, and still others somewhere in the middle.

My current goldfish tanks have been set up for about three years, but I have kept them off and on for the last 25. I currently have bubble eyes, telescopes and orandas. (No ryukins, though :() They range in size from 2" (baby telescope) to about 3 1/2"- 4" (just body length, not including tail.)

In terms of the best being a matter of opinion-- all goldfish foods are NOT created equal. The best of the best is what Inka describes-- self formulated homemade gel foods that you tailor to the needs of your particular fish. There is a standard when it comes to goldfish food more than for other fish, not just a matter of "I like this one/you like that one."

Actually, best is a quantifiable quality, based on hard facts and statistics. You can break down "best" and see which food gives you the most nutritionally complete profile or the highest quality ingredients, or you can factor in price, which leads you to the greatest value. None of those qualities factor in cheapness though, and generally, that is never a criterion when discussing the best of a certain item. Cheapest things are usually far from the best, and with fish food especially, you're getting what you paid for. So, that said, I'm gonna have to politely disagree with everything you've contributed to the discussion so far.
