What's the best water conditioner

I never used a conditioner because I'm on an individual well system.

I started using Prime because I had nitrite problems due to tanks not instantly cycling. After being told it helps remove heavy metals I plan on using it once a month in the tanks to remove any buildup.

The disadvantage of aging water is that heavy metals are not eliminated.

Roan Art,
what bad effects do the stress reducing or slime coat enhancing conditioners have? Some people swear by them and others don't. I may discontinue using them.

Prime and amquel don't "reduce stress" what's wrong with those that claim to help the slime coat, wouldn't that be a good thing?
What stress?

How do they help the slime coat?

Does the fish need help with its slime coat?

Would that be a good thing? Why?

How is Product X doing what it says its doing? Is it doing what it says its doing?

I'm with Roan on the mystery slime coat improvers…

I've heard good things about Prime and Amquel both, prefer Amquel personally.

IMO it's not needed. Fish produce their own slime coat and it certainly isn't made of aloe vera.

Totally MO: I also feel that it's not beneficial to the bacteria and could possibly hinder their replication. Any amount low enough to not cause problems with that, probably isn't enough to help fish and their slime coats.

I just think it's a marketing gimmick.

I would like to know about the stress coat as well....

It is the only product I could find locally to remove chlorine. I will order something different, but I dont want to throw it away. (Plus I need to do a WC today!)

I used Amquel for a long time but have switched to Prime as my conditioner.I to refuse to use anything that encourages slimecoat. It usually contains an agent that irratates the the cells so they create more slimecoat.Or some aditive such as aloe vera.If a fish has a damaged slimecoat it will be replaced usually within 24 hours left to its own devices if not there could be a possible problem that added ingredients could mask-Anne

Exactly what I was trying to say, but you said it better :)

Marketing ploy!
