What's the difference between these fish?

Their colors kind of shift a bit - when I first bought them I thought they were the same kind of fish but now I'm not so sure. Are they both German Blue Rams? What are their genders? Thanks.

They are both GBRs, the first one just hasn't colored up yet...did you just put them in your tank? The first one is also female, the other is male.

yep, same fish but the one on top is a female.

eh, the top one doesn't look female to me at all unless once the colors come in, there is noticeable pink on the belly. The bottom one, definitely female.

Now isn't this interesting? I'm very curious who is correct here. Lots of different ideas! I looked it up online and had trouble myself. Someone must know!

I have always been told that a sure fire way of sexing your Rams is to check the black blotch in the fish's side. If there are blue spangled dots in and around it, that's a female. Those with no dots present are males.

Top one looks like a female, the front dorsal spine is very short and colorless. The second one would look like a female to me, if there wasn't such a large spine. Thinking pic #1 female pic #2 male.
