Finally got my tank and it's almost done cycling! BANGORANG!

Still getting the particulars sorted like plants and decor, but I've noticed in the last week that something has started to grow in the cracks of one of my pieces of driftwood.

It's a white growth, can't tell if it's a fungus, bacteria, mis...
Has a translucent white coating over it like some food gets when it's left in the tank too long.

I have removed the wood from the tank, and I haven't noticed it growing on anything else, but can anyone tell me what this might be, if it's harmful to the tank, and if there is any way to eliminate it so I can replant the wood in the tank?

Thanks in advance

fungus, harmless

It is probably a fungus, and it is harmless, just part of the progression of things that happens in the tank. It will go away as it is taken over by other things.

I think if you go to Skeptical Aquarist site you will find some info on that.

Click to Favorites. I haven't seen that site before-it's pretty good!

From the information, it seems it is a harmless freshwater mold. thanks for the tip!

if you're superworried about it, you could probably cover and seal the crack with some aquarium sealant.. but i dont think its worth it, its probably harmless.
