whats with this fin rot????

i come home from work today, and again my bettas fins are ripped along the rays, in two places this time.

Now I am CERTAIN it is not anyone interfering with the tank, we have already scolded our daughter for this, and explained to her why she cant play in it.
On top of that, no one has been home all day, and his fins were fine this morning as far as I could tell with only the room light on.

they end up healing up, and then he gets injured again.

The tank has had a half dose of salt, and Ive done a 25% WC since then, so its less now.
Ive also been dosing excel for the last 2 days, but am going to continue every other day.

I just want this dude to be healthy, and have pretty fins.

My betta gets caught in the plastic plants and decorations at times.
Perhaps that is what is happening to yours.

I notice that he does like to swim behind either the heater or filter inlet, and sort of, hang there, head down, or up, and sit there for a few mins.... maybe hes getting caught in the filter??

if so why would he be doing that? he also zooms around behind the filter inlet/heater all the time, he like does circles and keeps swimming behind them, and under the filter output... i think he is playing, or something weird like that.....

Check all of the contents of the tank for any sharp edges. Maybe cover the filter inlet with some nylon mesh.

The filter intake could of sucked up and ripped his fins. Cover it with a sponge.

I too thought my betta's fins may have gotten caught in the filter, but then I read somewhere (can't remember where) that overfeeding can cause fin rot!!! I cut back on feeding my betta, and the fins almost instantly got better. Crazy, huh?

Because overfeeding deteriorates the water quality rather quickly.

How is this finrot if the betta's fins get ripped by equipments? It's not finrot and if it is, the fins would have appeared frayed with white edges. Do plenty of water changes.

I do wonder why your betta is hiding behind the filter so often. Do you have plenty of refuges for him in the tank? Fish feel a lot more comfortable when they can see they have ample places to hide if a predator comes along. They don't know that the tank they're in contains no predators, so you have to provide refuges so they feel comfortable hanging out in the open. Just seeing that they can escape makes them happier.
