whats wrong with my tiger barbs

would my barbs breed in just a typical tank though? i dont think theyre wanting to breed, cause they havent showed any other odd mating behavior besides just floating around acting dead.

also my ammonia is perfect.

is it the temp? i recently upped the temp cause i heard rams like warmer water. my temp is at 81-83 degreez if im not mistaken. is the water too warm for the barbs? should i try lowering the temp? to how low?

When my TB do the vertical float it is usually because they are bloated or have an intestinal bug. Of course the ammonia doesn't help and weather or not you do a water change and you should, do not forget to detox the water with an ammonia detoxifier like Prime. If the TB starts vertical swimming at the top near the outflow and breathing hard then he is in real trouble and should be placed in a QT with Maracyn and Maracyn2 double dose for the 1st 24 hours and normal dose for 4 extra days. This always worked when my BP are vertical floating and gasping for air, once I waited and lost a 4 inch TB.

and just now i noticed one tiger barb keeps floating vertically..face down. and his stripes are greyed out..whats going on!?!? how come my barb is acting like this? all other fish act normal?

Would this happen to be at night once you've turned the lights off? Cause thats how tiger barbs sleep. I've got 12 tiger barbs, and once the lights are off they all point their heads downwards and lose all their color, its quite normal behaviour that is displayed by a large number of fish, tetras come to mind.

Concur, the night sleeping position is true, however during the day especially during feeding time and one is in the corner vertical swinging, gasping and easy to net, its a bad sign. This is usually when keepers will notice the behavior in comparison to the rest of the group eating, playing or swimming. I don't really think this topic is pointing out night time group sleep activity.

after reading that thread, i felt better about my barbs..but after a day or two, my barbs are still doing the same behavior. a couple of em just float middle corner, half vertical, while the others just float around in the plants..

when i tap the glass, they swim perfectly fine. and osometimes theyll swim around together. but not often. i dont know whats up :/

is it maybe that they just feel comfortable in my tank, so theres no need for them to school and stay close together?
