They deserve a thread of their own, what you guys got against them?

(A halfway serious question, I'm seriously considering buying 5 or 6 to go with a couple of firemouths).

Tiger barbs are great fish. They're really active and they're beautiful. I had a tank of them and they're just too agressive. I think in most cases, one will eventually go on a mean streak and terrorize every other fish in the tank. I had one that chased all of the others whenever it saw them up until the day he died, then another one started doing the same thing. I've simply become more interested in peaceful fish.

I had 4 the ring leader went nuts after about 7months and terrized the other three finally killing one. I caught him trying to kill an other one. Now hes living with a jd and convict, hes not so bad now. The other 2 are still in the tank and doing fine. I do really like the looks of this fish but they can be nasty. Oh yea there are also 4 serpae tetras and three clown loaches in the tank. I never saw the tigers going after them. Just each other.

Personally, I love them..very interesting fish.

I belive the reason why most people dislike them. is because they buy them as begginer fish. but find out how agrresive the tigerbarbs can be.. i dont like them alot, but i have read alot of interesting things about them

i think

a tank with a school of tiger barbs some clown loaches and some kinda catfish woul be interesting though

my main prob

i guess is not so much with the fish its just that most lfs sell them to beginners with out telling what their geting into
they are a nice looking fish though

I would definitly buy them in a larger group... I lost 2 of the original 5 that I bought and the largest of the remaining 3 chewed up the other 2 pretty good before I got a few replacements (they regrow fins pretty quickly!). I've had no problems since I bought 3 more. They've been pretty good tankmates for the rest of my fish (tetras, rainbowfish, otos)
