Whats your average monthly electric bill?

I'm in a one bedroom apt, I run 160 watts of lights my electricity biil last month was only 117. Central Texas

I was paying 90 a month for a 2 bedroom, with a tv and an xbox and a lotta lights running almost 24 hours a day (my room mate and I were on differnt schedules). And All my appliances including heat and stove were electric (frigging land lord said Free water, free gas- there was no gas apppliances haha) See if your power company has a budget program if your worried about it- speads the cost of running ac and such out over the course of the year instead of all at once.

couldn't tell you because I don't pay it. Thank you landlord!!

:22_yikes: HATE that guy ^^^^

My Con-ed (electric only- my heat is oil and not included) is $420-$450 per month all year round.

I have 11 high light planted tanks. In gallons: 125/90/55/four 20/three 29/ 10.

but it aint the lights... if I do the math, total wattage x hours per day (they are all on timers)- thats only 330Kw/hr and my con-ed is ~1800kw/hr per month. If I assume the filters are 40W each that's another 190. Heaters, lets say roughly 300kw/hr, that brings me to 820 Kw/hr per month- or less than 1/2 of the bill, say $190 out of $430.

Half of the bill or more is the freeking tenant I have in my basement that kills me! He's got 19 light sockets down there- he's got 100W bulbs in every one, and Everytime I walk past his windows I want to scream- they ALL RUN all day every day. He turns them on when he wakes up for work in the morning, then leaves them on all day long while he is at work, and turns them off at midnight when he goes back to sleep. That's 912 kw/hr per month. That's for lights in an apartment that is empty for 40 hours a week. In December I gave him three multipacks of spiral bulbs and asked him to replace the bulbs he was using. My Con-ed bill for the month dropped to $350- that's $80 in savings that was previously just wasted- or roughly enough to power high-light (over 3WPG) 11 tanks totaling over 500 gallons. It used to drive me nuts... until I raised his rent.:FIREdevil:

So, n00b- your landlord aint paying your electric, even if it seems like it. :raspberry:

My energy bill is about $200-250 a month for a 5 bedroom house with 3 kids that leave there lights on despite my nagging. We don't use our heater though (heat with wood). That is about the cost of our energy bill year round.

8 tanks x lowish lights plus everything else $140/month. Much better now I water heat with gas instead of electric & heat with gas instead of oil. Other than that, much lower, yeah, higher efiency!
