I'd have to do some math to know for sure..my utility company charges me every other month, and the bill includes electric, water, sewer, garbage, and recycling. My bill's usually around $150 a month in the summer, 300 a month in the winter (I think the non-electric utilities make up appx. $100 of that) and I'm on a big central electric furnace for my heating for a 2 story, 4 bedroom house. So...depending on the season I'm going to go with $50-200 a month for electricity and my fishtank lights being a negligible part of that since I have appx. 120 watts going about 12 hours a day year round...I love how cheap the summer is. Which means I'm spending $150 a month right now to keep my house "warm" at 66 F....ugh.
My electric bill runs right at $200 monthly. What percentage of that is for the tanks, I have no idea. I heat with corn and fuel oil, but everything else is electric. I have 2 young kids who always leave lights and or televisions on and a husband who does quite a bit of work out of the garage (welding, mechanic stuff, power tools, etc.). It has been so long since I have had no fish tanks, I can not remember what the electric was before fish.
We are on budget and it keeps going up. It is $238 a month for a large 4 bedroom home. We installed a new heater/ac last year but our bill has not changed much. I have 26 tanks w/heaters in my hatchery. I know that they have increased my bill but not sure by how much. When I have looked at our past usage (prior to the hatchery) and current the KWH are basically unchanged. Our new heat/ac units are high effeciency units so I think the KWH's saved by them have been replaced by the hatchery.
One of the libraries near me has a Kilowatt you can check out. I tried it but it was hard to fit in some places & I didn't get a good idea of how much each item was using
I have a 110, 80, and a 55 gallon tank. My electricity bill this month is $278.00. I have a 60 gallon tank that I want to set up but I know if I do that, the price might increase to about $100 more each month. I live in California, and the price for electritcity is quite high is you use a lot of electricity.
I actually calculated it out a few weeks ago. Our house is 2400 sq ft, 4 bed, 2 bath. 2 people. Average monthly electric is $120(thank you, Georgia Power).
I currently have a 60-P high tech planted running. It's contribution to our bill is:
I'm bringing a 120g high tech planted online right now, and it will raise my bill by:
A decent guestimate for aquariums is $1 per gallon per year, but obviously the higher tech you go, the more it cost.
