What's your biggest fear?

Me spiders too. I think I'd been the one with the 3" one on my head, I wouldn't be here now. I'd have had a heart attack or a stroke right there.

I've got THE WINNER for ya

I'm a nurse assistant in a hospital. Things always happen in groups. Cat bites, appy's, kidney stones. It was brown recluse spider bite day. We got report that we were getting a patient from recovery (surgery) that had benn bit on the tip of his penis. He was in surgery because they had to SCRAPE the dead tissue off. He was in the most pain I have ever seen anyone in, as you can imagine. Later that afternoon, his wife is looking through the lovely flowers that the nice elderly lady volunteer brought up that was from a friend.....guess what was in the flowers......a spider.

And on the Nurse Station monitor there appeared a flatline.

Okay... I can understand the spider fear... I am not particually scared of them, if they land on me I just brush them off. I don't particually like bees and hornets after last summer, I was walking down the road, and out of nowhere I got stung (I ignored it like they say to do, but to no avail), and then I got stung 3 more times that summer, for apparently no reason. So now they kinda make me walk a little faster. I can even handle hights, I love rapelling, and bungee jumping.
But I have a very irrashional fear of pickles. I have no idea why, but I cant stand to be in the same room as them. In fact, once, I had a friend who didnt realise the full extent of my phobia, and she came into my section (we worked at a business that was a resteraunt, and a gas station/garage all-in-one) at work and threw 3 of them at me, she didnt hit me, but I had to leave. When I finally got myself together (took an hour), I went, and grabbed a big manilla envelope, took it out back, caught 8 spiders (which was her worst fear), went inside and threw them at her (too bad she had long hair).
Another time when I was covering a waitress shift in the resteraunt, the bosses sons came screeching around the corner while I was waiting on a table with a water gun full of pickle juice, and chased me around the busy resturaunt trying to get me. I did get a drop on my shirt so i went into the back, took it off and threw it in the garbage and walked out (in a camisole).

And yet another time, I accidently opened a huge 15 gallon pail of them at the resteraunt, and for the first time in my life, i just about fainted.
even today if there is a possibility that i tauched something that might has touched something that might have touched a pickle, i fell so grossed out that i have to pretty much have a whole shower with about half a bar of soap to feel alright.
People say I should go on Maury or something, but I am perfectly happy with my loath for them.

we made a club of people that had stupid fears, there was me with the pickle thing, a girl who hated mayo just as bad, and a guy that hated wire coathangers, not plastic, just the wire ones.

lakes creap me out. they disgust me. I can't stand swimming in them. the thought of touching the bottoms, or the sides is so scary. Ewwww slime!

spiders and other large bugs scare the crap out of me as well. But I can squish ants like they are nothing. I used to be terrified of ants.

The roach.

Actually, it's more an intense hatred. And they seem to know they are not wanted. I could not stand being in a house that has them. Most don't know they can and will bite bad enough to make one bleed. Glad that never happened to me!

Anyone else against these creatures?

Rejection and/or failure.

I will have to agree with Matak on this one. In the late 90's I was sent on recruiting duty for 3 years. The biggest thing that I feared was rejection. I had to learn to deal with was rejection some how. I became so obsessed with rejection that I feared that I was going to fail at my job, which I have never experienced in my job. Ultimately, I learned to deal with the rejection by channeling these same energies into my job. In the end I left recruiting with a successful tour on recruiting duty.

You have hit the nail on the head, T. The best way to deal with this type of setback is to immerse yourself in it.

Joe,

Our palmetto bugs are much classier than a common roach ;)

I have a fear of mole crickets. A few years ago before I had AC in my shop, I was working late. I had the doors open, all my safety gear on and was sitting in front of my grinder working away. All of a sudden, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a mole cricket fly towards me, then I felt it go up my shorts. Just when it couldn't fly up any farther, it started "digging" with those nasty looking front claws. Long story short, I just about did a back flip out of my chair!! :idea2: They're heads and front claws are hard as a rock and not fun to hit on a motorcycle either
