I'm planning for the end of my cycle (sounds ominous) - and can't wait to fill my tank w/ FISH! There are so many fish I've never even heard of....newbie. The fish tank I grew up with only ever had in it: goldfish, gouramis, red swords and black mollies. That was the extent of my fish species until the last 2 years!
I'd love to hear what people's #1 fish are and why :)
THANKS

My favourite fish is the Discus and koi's. I've never had discus but just love there colour and movement. My fav tropical fish i've had is either my corys or my clown pleco, both fun fish to watch.

Can you tell us the size of your tank and the equipment with it, this will help us give you fish that could live in your setup. You can then go and see which ones you like. Remember to stock slowly, so not to cause a mini cycle. the filter needs to develop each time more fish are added.

My favourite fish are discus, i beleive they are the King's of fishes ;)

They 0wn all fish :p

Discus's are nice but too much of a specialist fish for it to be by favourite. I've got tyo go for Corys. You just end up falling for their wacky behavour. I can watch mine for hours.

I love my white cliud minnows. They are vibrant and exciting to watch. They love to flare around the tanka nd "fight" the current of the filter. I keep the tank nice and cool for them and their colours are so great.

it sounds like your very new - welcome to the hobby! It's a lot of fun but i have to warn you, you willl expereince some frustration just from learning things on your own but this website is great i learned a lot from the folks here (still am learning!) I would start with some hardy inexpensive fish where you can grasp the basics, also if you lose fish along the way it won't cost as much!

Platys, swordtails, mollies are pretty good beginner fish with nice colors

zebras and other danios are very hardy - whitecloud minnows are great too

cories are awesome for the bottom just remember to put in some sinking food to feed them - so many people make the mistake of thinking all they need to eat is the scrap flakes that fall to the bottom!

let us know what other questions you have! good luck

not that you could keep one(SW), but I really like anglerfish. you know the one's with the "fishing pole" on thier head. there was one in nemo. they are females, the male looks like a totally different fish abouth 1/8th the size of the girl. He attaches to her and his head is kinda absorbed into her body for the rest of thier lives, and he is 100% dependant on her for food, oxygen etc.

for something you could keep, I like kuhli loaches. real cute

Right now for me, it is Endler's Livebearers. They are colorful in a very cool way and just cute little fish. For personality, I do have to agree on Coryadoras. Those little catfish just work and play in such a cool way. Of course, I also like mollies. You can get some awesome colors and finnage as well as that molly personality: exploring everything with your mouth, even the fishkeeper as he cleans; the fact that they have offspring so easily; and of course that they swim ALL over every level of the tank.
