I bought my Grey Leopard spotted pleco at about 2-3 inches long for $30.

If I was to add aonther pleco...would they feel comfortable enough to come out in the open?

No, I once had 5 baby plecs (under 5 inches) in a 55g and they hid just as much as they do now with only 2 in that tank. I have a L114 and L006 in that tank and a few others a going to go in soon and sometimes I can see the entire L006 but generally only see the tail of the L114. I also have a ton of good hiding places with lots of driftwood, lava (lace) rocks, and some other decorations. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.

some plecos are more shy than others. all will come out you have to train them to. when you first get a pleco some will starve before they ll come out for food because thier so shy its best to drop the food by them at night. after their aclamated for a for a couple of weeks. starve them for about 5 days they ll graze on alae in the tank durring that time. then at the begginig of the day when the lights come on drop some food in the open and sit still in front of the tank any quick movements will spook them eventualy they ll start comeing out durring the day under no circomestances feed them at night after the stavevation period. my plecos are nolonger shy the comeout all the time. if you add another pleco put food by him at night just alittle and do the same thing. every pleco i ve ever tride this on came out durring the day some became less shy and wanderd the tank for food all day others come out chow and go back to hideing. before i did this i hated that they hid all the time know i can see them any time i want
